The Minnesota Avenue bridge, located between Starship Road and Zafiro Drive in Brownsville, is scheduled to close for demolition and replacement beginning Monday, January 19, 2026. The project, led by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), aims to improve traffic flow and safety for area drivers.
The new bridge will feature two 12-foot travel lanes — one in each direction — and five-foot shoulders on both sides. According to TxDOT, the upgraded design will better accommodate vehicles and enhance overall roadway capacity.
Construction is expected to last just over two months, with an anticipated completion date of March 27, 2026, weather permitting.
During the construction period, a guided two-mile detour will be in place. Drivers are advised to follow detour signs directing traffic along Norton Drive, Morning Side Road, Southmost Avenue, and California Road.
Local officials are encouraging residents to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and remain cautious in the area.
