Texas Southmost College Auto Body Repair Technology program helped a Brownsville ISD racing team prepare for a national competition at Talladega Superspeedway.
Students and instructors repaired and painted electric race cars for Oliveira Middle School Brownsville Racing Team, which placed third in the F-24 Intermediate Modified division at the Greenpower USA National Finals in May.
TSC instructors Donald Lee Wilt Jr. and Edrick J. Cuevas used the project as a hands-on lesson in fiberglass repair, refinishing and custom paint work. The cars were redesigned with a look inspired by the Herbie film franchise and featured TSC branding.
The project gave TSC students real-world experience while supporting younger students competing on a national stage.
