The 4th annual Rally in the Valley 4.0 was a day of inspiration and opportunity. The Greater Brownsville Incentives Corporation, in partnership with the City of Brownsville, Texas Workforce Commission, and Workforce Solutions Cameron, hosted the event Thursday, which brought together over 400 high school students with industry professionals, educators, and workforce leaders.
Brownsville Mayor John Cowen Jr. gave the opening remarks and encouraged students to pursue their passions and contribute to the growth of our region. His message underscored the City’s commitment to building a strong, homegrown workforce.
“Rally in the Valley 4.0 is key to your future because the internship opportunities it can offer you can serve as a bridge between the classroom and the real world. An internship will offer you skills development, networking opportunities, career exploration, and, most importantly, it will offer you real-world experiences. Your journey to greatness can start today. Right here and right now,” Mayor Cowen said.
Alongside Mayor Cowen, guest speakers included GBIC CEO Gilberto Salinas, Joe Esparza from the Texas Workforce Commission, and Dr. Vanessa Malo of TXWORKS. Each emphasized the value of early career exploration and the important role students play in the region’s future workforce.
Through mock interviews, resume tips, and interactive career booths, Rally in the Valley 4.0 gave students a deeper understanding of the paths available to them—and the confidence to pursue them.
This annual initiative continues to support Brownsville’s mission to grow a strong, skilled, and locally sourced workforce.
