The City of Brownsville is preparing to launch its new Curbside Recycling Program by distributing bright red recycling bins to households beginning this Saturday, November 15.
The rollout marks an important step in the City’s ongoing efforts to promote environmental sustainability and responsible waste management. While the bins will begin arriving at homes this weekend, residents are reminded that curbside recycling collection will not begin until the week of January 1, 2026.
Each eligible household within city limits will receive one red recycling bin. The bins are intended for approved recyclable materials only, and the City will be releasing clear guidelines in the coming weeks about what can and cannot be placed inside.
When curbside service begins in January, recycling will be collected every other week based on zones. Residents will receive a schedule and zone map ahead of the launch to help them prepare.
Key Dates:
Saturday, November 15 – Red recycling bin distribution begins
Week of January 1, 2026 – Curbside recycling collection starts
Residents are encouraged to keep their bins in a safe location, learn about proper recycling practices, and follow the City’s updates for details on their pickup schedules.
