BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Rio-South Texas Education and Community Development Foundation has awarded $390,000 to the Texas Southmost College Foundation to help adult learners complete workforce credentials.
The Achievement Scholarship is expected to support 520 students who are in the final three semesters of eligible programs. The initiative focuses on economically disadvantaged adult learners, with priority for single parents and adults who grew up in single-parent households.
Funding will help students cover education costs as they prepare for jobs in fields aligned with regional employer needs. College and foundation leaders said the partnership is designed to prevent financial barriers from stopping students who are close to earning a credential.
RSTEF serves seven counties and has committed about $11.6 million to 41 programs since 2019. The foundation says matching and partner support can leverage that investment to as much as $23.2 million.
