STARBASE, Texas — The city of Starbase has proposed a 2026 property tax rate of $0.803732 per $100 of taxable value and scheduled a public hearing for Sept. 4 before the City Commission considers the rate.
The hearing is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Starbase City Hall, 48491 State Highway 4. Residents may speak in support of or opposition to the proposal.
The proposed rate is higher than the city’s 2025 adopted rate of $0.55 per $100, an increase of about 46%. It is also higher than the 2026 no-new-revenue rate of $0.775093 and equal to the voter-approval rate of $0.803732, according to the city’s state-required notices.
A tax-rate increase does not translate directly into the same percentage increase for every property owner. Individual bills depend on taxable values, exemptions and the final rate adopted by the commission.
The city’s notice lists a total current-year taxable value of $1.19 billion and no property-tax-supported debt. The proposed fiscal 2027 budget covers Oct. 1, 2026, through Sept. 30, 2027.
The proposed rate and budget remain subject to public review and commission action.
