Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has paused new data-center grid connections while state regulators audit projects waiting for approval, according to USA TODAY.
The review comes as large data centers increase demand for electricity and raise questions about grid reliability, infrastructure costs and water use. The pause could affect the timing of proposed facilities and the upgrades needed to serve them.
The announcement does not automatically shut down existing data centers or projects already connected to the power grid. The audit is expected to help state officials evaluate how proposed developments would affect Texas’ electricity system before additional connections are approved.
