Bryan L. Martinez
City Commissioner, District 1
Bryan L. Martinez serves as the City Commissioner for District 1 in the City of Brownsville, Texas. Elected in 2023 at just 28 years old, he is the youngest commissioner ever elected to represent District 1. Since taking office, Commissioner Martinez has maintained an outstanding attendance record at City Commission meetings and has been actively involved in multiple city boards and committees.
He currently serves on the Brownsville Animal Regulation & Care Center (BARCC) Board, the Parks and Recreation Department Board, and the City of Brownsville Budget Subcommittee, helping guide key policy and financial decisions that impact the community.
Beyond City Hall, Commissioner Martinez remains highly engaged in local civic and nonprofit initiatives. He serves as Chairman of the Paramedic Program Advisory Board at Texas Southmost College, Campaign Ambassador for United Way of Southern Cameron County, and Vice President for Government and Community Affairs for Sombrero Festival, Ltd. He also supports the Southmost Veterans Parade planning committee as a liaison.
Commissioner Martinez is a graduate of Leadership Brownsville Class XXXV and previously served three years on the Leadership Brownsville Board of Directors. He is the founder and past president of the Brownsville Toastmasters Club and previously served two terms as Toastmasters RGV Area Director, overseeing 13 clubs and more than 170 members throughout the Rio Grande Valley. He is also an active member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
In recognition of his commitment to professional development, Commissioner Martinez received the Texas Municipal League Institute Certificate of Achievement after completing continuing education units during the 2023 calendar year. He was one of only six elected city officials in Texas to receive the honor that year.
Through his leadership and community involvement, Commissioner Martinez continues to focus on civic engagement, public service, and strengthening opportunities for residents across District 1 and the City of Brownsville.
