RIO GRANDE VALLEY – UTRGV will open its 2026-27 men's basketball season Nov. 2 against Texas A&M-Kingsville at the UTRGV Fieldhouse, beginning the first season under head coach Brandon Chambers.
The Vaqueros are coming off consecutive winning seasons for the first time since 1988-90. They won a program-record 14 conference games in 2025-26 and entered the Southland Conference tournament as the No. 3 seed.
UTRGV begins with three home games. Prairie View A&M visits Nov. 7 after reaching the 2026 NCAA Tournament, and new Pac-12 member Texas State visits Nov. 10. The Vaqueros play their first road game Nov. 14 at UT Arlington, then host the College of Biblical Studies on Nov. 18.
A six-game road stretch follows: Austin Peay on Nov. 21, UNLV on Nov. 28, Southland games at Nicholls on Dec. 3 and LSU New Orleans on Dec. 5, Texas State on Dec. 8 and Dayton on Dec. 15.
UTRGV hosts Stephen F. Austin on Dec. 19 and Lamar on Dec. 21 before visiting Arkansas on Dec. 29. The 2027 portion opens with the South Texas Showdown against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Jan. 2.
Conference home games also include East Texas A&M, Northwestern State, UIW, Houston Christian, LSU New Orleans, Nicholls, Southeastern and McNeese. The regular season ends with road games at East Texas A&M on Feb. 27 and Northwestern State on March 1.
The Southland tournament is March 7-10 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. The NCAA Tournament begins March 16, and the national championship game is April 5 in Detroit. UTRGV said single-game and season-ticket details will be announced later.
