STARBASE, Texas – Cards Against Humanity is asking the public to help shape a proposed monument on company-owned land near Starbase, extending a long-running dispute between the game maker and SpaceX into a new public campaign.
The company said participants can pay $10 to join a design committee through a campaign website. Members are expected to vote on the monument’s concept and appearance. Cards Against Humanity also said 10% of profits from newly released game expansion packs would help fund the project.
The proposal is deliberately satirical and directed at SpaceX founder Elon Musk. No final design, construction schedule or completion date has been announced.
The land traces back to a 2017 campaign in which Cards Against Humanity purchased property along the Texas-Mexico border. About 150,000 people contributed $15 each to the effort, which the company promoted as an attempt to complicate construction of a border barrier.
The dispute escalated in 2024, when Cards Against Humanity filed a $15 million lawsuit accusing SpaceX of entering the property and placing construction equipment and materials there without permission. The company said the case was settled in 2025 and that SpaceX removed the equipment. The parcel later became part of Starbase after voters approved the city’s incorporation in May 2025.
The campaign is separate from any official Starbase project. The source report did not include a response from SpaceX or Musk to the monument proposal.
