BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Brownsville Navigation District Board of Commissioners approved a series of agreements involving SpaceX on Oct. 20, including a memorandum of understanding connected to proposed natural-gas pipeline work across the Brownsville Ship Channel.
The actions also involved proposed land leases, temporary storage and access arrangements, according to reporting on the meeting. The pipeline agreement was described as a $2 million deal, while other proposed arrangements could bring additional revenue to the port.
Port officials said the proposed agreements concern infrastructure and access that are routinely handled by the district, while noting that SpaceX would be a new customer for those services.
The agreements come as SpaceX expands its South Texas operations and seeks additional infrastructure connections in the region. The Port of Brownsville and Starbase are separate facilities, but they are linked by regional transportation, construction and industrial activity.
Details of individual agreements, construction schedules and any required regulatory approvals will continue to be subject to the applicable public, contracting and permitting processes.
