Nearly $6.9 Million Renovation Modernizes Andy Bowie Park

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – Cameron County has completed a nearly $6.9 million renovation of Andy Bowie Park, adding new amenities and improving beach access at one of South Padre Island’s busiest public parks.

County officials marked completion of the project during a June 26 ribbon-cutting at Beach Access No. 2. SpaceX contributed $2 million toward the work, which replaced infrastructure dating to 1994.

Improvements include elevated plaza pavilions at the north and south ends of the park, additional picnic areas, environmentally sensitive lighting, renovated restrooms and bathhouses, updated concession buildings and improvements to the park office.

The project also added an accessible boardwalk through the dunes. Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr. said the renovation is part of approximately $51 million the county has invested in coastal parks since 2017.
