The Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) is inviting local entrepreneurs and food business owners to attend another Permitting Made Simple informational workshop designed to help businesses save time, avoid costly mistakes, and better navigate the permitting process. The event is free and open to the public.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, February 18, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM at the eBridge Center for Business & Commercialization, located at 1304 E. Adams Street in Brownsville.
This session will feature experts from the Brownsville Public Utilities Board (BPUB) and will focus on pretreatment systems and grease interceptors (grease traps)—a critical requirement for many food-related businesses.
Opening or expanding a food business is challenging, and permitting should not be what slows entrepreneurs down. This practical, no-cost workshop is designed to help business owners understand requirements before investing in equipment, buildout, or setting a grand opening date.
Participants will learn:
- What grease interceptors are and how they work
- Why pretreatment requirements exist and how they protect businesses and the community
- Common permitting steps, required documents, and inspection expectations
- Typical mistakes that cause delays, rework, and added costs
- Real-world scenarios with a live question-and-answer session
The workshop is ideal for restaurant owners, food truck operators, caterers, bakers, commercial kitchen users, property owners, and anyone planning a food concept in Brownsville.
By attending, participants can gain early clarity, avoid surprise costs, and save valuable time as they prepare to open or expand their business.
