Brownsville’s newest affordable housing community has officially opened its doors, providing a new housing option designed specifically for residents ages 55 and older.
City and community leaders gathered Thursday for a ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of Legacy Del Sol Senior Living, a new 55-and-older apartment community located at 2151 Laredo Road.
Legacy Del Sol is part of the Housing Authority of the City of Brownsville’s ongoing efforts to expand access to quality, affordable housing for residents throughout the community.
The $22 million development features 84 apartment units, increasing the availability of affordable housing for older adults in Brownsville. The community is designed to provide residents with an affordable place to call home while allowing them to maintain their independence and remain connected to the community.
Brownsville Mayor John Cowen Jr. joined Carla Mancha, CEO of the Housing Authority of the City of Brownsville, along with other community leaders and partners for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
The opening of Legacy Del Sol represents a significant investment in Brownsville’s housing infrastructure and comes as the city continues to grow and the demand for affordable housing remains an important community need.
For older residents, the development provides another housing option tailored specifically to their stage of life. For the broader community, the addition of 84 affordable units expands Brownsville’s housing inventory and supports ongoing efforts to provide housing opportunities for residents at different ages and income levels.
Thursday’s ribbon cutting marked the culmination of the work and partnerships that brought the $22 million development to completion and officially welcomed Legacy Del Sol Senior Living to the Brownsville community.
