BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Brownsville Fire Department has placed a new fire engine into service following a traditional push-in ceremony attended by firefighters and city leaders.
The ceremony reflects an early fire-service tradition in which crews pushed horse-drawn equipment into a station by hand. Fire departments across the country continue the practice when dedicating new apparatus.
The new engine will strengthen the department’s emergency-response fleet and support firefighters responding to structure fires, vehicle crashes, medical calls and other emergencies.
Modern fire engines carry water, hose, ladders, breathing equipment and specialized rescue tools. They also serve as mobile work platforms that allow crews to begin operations immediately after arriving at an incident.
City officials thanked firefighters for their service and said the investment is intended to improve reliability and public safety as Brownsville continues to grow.
