Brownsville Public Library System and BARCC team up for “Read to a Pet” program

The Brownsville Public Library System is teaming up with the Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center (BARCC) to bring a unique, heartwarming experience to readers of all ages. The “Read to a Pet” program invites the community to spend quiet, meaningful time reading to adoptable cats and pets in a calm, welcoming library setting.

Designed to promote literacy, empathy, and animal adoption, this initiative creates a safe and comforting environment where participants can read aloud to furry friends from BARCC. It is an excellent opportunity for kids to practice reading in a judgment-free space, giving these lovable animals much-needed attention and socialization.

Participants will be asked to sign a simple waiver before joining the event. After that, it’s all about books, pets, and positive connections.

Event Details:

Main Branch Library: 2600 Central Blvd. on Friday, November 3

Southmost Branch Library: 4320 Southmost Blvd on Friday, November 24

Time: 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Whether you’re a young reader building confidence or simply an animal lover, this event offers a chance to bond with adoptable pets—and possibly even meet your new best friend.
