Brownsville’s Public Library System has been awarded the prestigious Achievement of Library Excellence Award by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA), an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League, for the year 2025. This distinguished honor recognizes the library system’s outstanding commitment to public service, innovation, and inclusive programming.
This marks the third consecutive year the Brownsville Public Library System has received the award, with the first recognition coming in 2023.
The Achievement of Library Excellence Award is granted to libraries that demonstrate outstanding community service and operational excellence. Criteria for the award include innovative marketing strategies, cultural, topical, and educational programming, literacy support, engaging summer reading clubs, collaborative efforts, workforce development support, digital inclusion initiatives, providing services to underserved and special populations, and comprehensive staff training. The Brownsville Public Library System stood out among the 542 public libraries in Texas, with only 101 libraries receiving this honor in 2025.
The Brownsville Public Library System’s achievement underscores its role as a leader in providing innovative and comprehensive library services. This award serves as a reminder of the library’s vital contribution to Brownsville’s educational, cultural, and social fabric.
