BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Cameron County commissioners approved a $265 million budget and tax rate for the coming fiscal year, which begins Oct. 1.
The approved budget is larger than the prior year’s plan, a change attributed in local reporting to growth in businesses and home development. The tax rate remained unchanged, though rising property values are expected to generate additional revenue.
Commissioners also considered, but did not act on, a Border Patrol proposal to test a rescue beacon at a county park. The meeting included updates on state funding for road projects and Isla Blanca Park construction, according to the report.
