Brownsville Metro riders will benefit from a new transit shelter planned for Price Road following approval of an agreement between the City of Brownsville and the Brownsville Independent School District.
The Brownsville City Commission approved the interlocal agreement during its Sept. 22 meeting, allowing Brownsville Metro to install and maintain a bus shelter on BISD property at 2477 Price Road.
The partnership gives Brownsville Metro authorization to use the designated portion of BISD property for the transit shelter, bringing the City and school district together to support public transportation infrastructure in the community.
For passengers, bus shelters provide a designated place to wait for transit service while offering protection from sun, rain and other weather conditions. Brownsville Metro operates designated bus stops throughout the community, with shelters available at many locations.
The Price Road project also complements Brownsville Metro’s broader work to improve transit infrastructure. The City’s Fiscal Year 2026 work plan includes several bus shelter initiatives, including planning for new shelters and improvements to bus shelter and sidewalk infrastructure.
By coordinating the use of public property, the City and BISD are helping create another transit amenity designed to make the experience of using public transportation more convenient and comfortable for Brownsville riders.
