City of Brownsville Accepting Applications for Hotel Occupancy Tax Funding

The City of Brownsville is inviting eligible organizations and businesses to apply for Hotel Occupancy Tax (HOT) funding as part of the upcoming fiscal year budget process.

HOT funds are available to support programs, projects, and events that promote tourism and generate overnight stays in Brownsville hotels. The funding is designed to strengthen the city's tourism industry while contributing to economic growth and enhancing quality of life for residents and visitors alike.

Organizations seeking funding must demonstrate how their proposed activities will attract visitors to Brownsville, increase tourism-related spending, and align with state and local HOT fund guidelines. Applicants must also meet eligibility requirements established by the City's HOT Funds Committee, which includes representatives from multiple City departments.

According to Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau and Office of Space Commerce Director Nathan A. Burkhart, tourism investments have a lasting impact on the community.

"Tourism investment is just another facet of quality of life. It makes communities more vibrant," Burkhart said. "The best thing about HOT tax, and specifically visitors, is that's outside money coming in to invest locally within our restaurants and within our venues."

The HOT funding application period opened on May 15 and will remain open through July 6. Organizations interested in applying are encouraged to review eligibility requirements and submit their applications before the deadline.

Additional information, application materials, and submission guidelines are available online at visitbtx.com/hotfundsrequests.

For questions regarding the application process, organizations may contact the Brownsville Convention and Visitors Bureau directly.
