BROWNSVILLE, Texas – U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright met with Port of Brownsville leaders and regional stakeholders during an Aug. 4 visit focused on energy production, exports and industrial development.
Wright joined the Brownsville Navigation District Board of Commissioners, port leadership, elected officials, industry representatives and education partners for a roundtable discussion.
Port officials said the conversation addressed the ship channel’s role in liquefied natural gas exports, advanced manufacturing and new energy infrastructure. Wright also toured the channel by boat to view current operations and construction.
The visit highlighted several large projects in the Brownsville area, including LNG facilities and a new oil refinery. Port leaders said those investments are expected to support construction work, permanent jobs and additional commercial activity.
Wright said the federal administration wants to expand domestic energy production and use it to support American industry and exports to allies. The Port of Brownsville serves as a deepwater gateway for international trade, energy and manufacturing along the U.S.-Mexico border.
