City of Brownsville installs illuminated stop signs to improve roadway safety

The City of Brownsville Department of Engineering and Public Works (EPW) is taking proactive measures to enhance roadway safety for local motorists by installing illuminated stop signs at 10 key intersections throughout the city.

This initiative is part of the City’s ongoing commitment to reducing accidents and promoting safer driving behavior. The new stop signs are designed with internal lighting to significantly improve visibility for drivers, especially in low-light conditions, inclement weather, and at intersections with higher traffic risks.

The illuminated stop signs have been installed at the following locations:

  • Athens Street & Morrison Road
  • Honeydale Road & Lewis Street
  • Palomar Street & Staunton Street (both sides)
  • W. Levee Street & W. 7th Street (both sides)
  • Old Alice Road & Central Park Drive
  • Palm Boulevard & Central Park Drive

Each intersection was selected based on traffic patterns, visibility concerns, and community feedback. EPW plans to continue evaluating other high-traffic areas for future installations.

The City encourages all drivers to remain alert and follow posted traffic signs.
