EDINBURG, Texas – DHR Health is highlighting scoliosis treatment options available in the Rio Grande Valley, including specialized rehabilitation services in Alamo and orthopedic spine care in Edinburg.
The health system said the reminder follows National Scoliosis Awareness Month in June and is intended to let families know that evaluation, therapy and surgical care for scoliosis are available locally.
Scoliosis is an abnormal sideways curvature of the spine that can form a C or S shape. Mild and moderate cases may be monitored or treated with specialized physical therapy, while more severe cases can cause pain, uneven posture and, in some patients, require bracing or surgery.
At DHR Health’s Orthopedic Sports Therapy Institute in Alamo, patients can receive scoliosis-focused rehabilitation. DHR Health said physical therapist Jorge Escobedo is certified in the Schroth Method, a specialized therapy approach used to treat scoliosis and other spinal deformities.
The rehabilitation program is designed for teenagers and adults and focuses on posture, curve progression, spinal pain, respiratory function and movement. Appointments for the Alamo therapy location can be scheduled by calling (956) 362-6705.
For patients who may need surgical evaluation or advanced spine care, DHR Health’s Orthopedic Spine Center of Excellence in Edinburg is led by orthopedic spine surgeon Dr. Jaime Villarreal. The center provides evaluations, diagnosis, nonsurgical treatment options and surgical care for scoliosis and other spine conditions.
DHR Health said Dr. Villarreal sees patients at the DHR Health Orthopedic Institute in Edinburg. Appointments can be scheduled by calling (956) 326-6683.
