New Rio Grande Valley Chapter to Connect Infrastructure and Workforce Leaders

HARLINGEN, Texas – A new Rio Grande Valley chapter of the Institute for Leadership in Capital Projects is being organized to connect public agencies, utilities, educators, contractors and business leaders involved in major regional development.

The chapter will be introduced during “Powering Texas and Regional Growth: Infrastructure and Workforce Exchange” from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Aug. 13 at the Harlingen Convention Center. The Harlingen Economic Development Corp. is co-hosting the event.

Organizers say the chapter will focus on the planning and delivery of capital projects, including transportation, utilities, public facilities and industrial development. It also is intended to address the workers and training programs needed to design, build and operate those investments.

Population growth and new industrial activity have increased demand for roads, water and wastewater systems, electric capacity, schools and health facilities across the Valley. Large projects often require coordination among local governments, engineers, contractors, workforce boards and colleges.

Brian Godinez, the institute’s president, said the regional group is meant to create a continuing forum for those organizations rather than a single conference.

The Aug. 13 exchange is expected to include economic-development representatives, utility officials, educators and members of the construction industry. Discussion will center on infrastructure needs, project leadership and workforce pipelines.

The event was promoted through sponsored material. Participation details and any registration fees should be confirmed with the organizers.
