SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – Community and tourism leaders gathered for a workshop to discuss options for expanding the South Padre Island Convention Center.
The discussion focused on the island's ability to host larger conferences, exhibitions and events while balancing cost, design and long-term visitor demand. Supporters say additional meeting and event capacity could strengthen year-round tourism and generate more business for hotels, restaurants and local vendors.
The workshop was part of the planning process, and any final project would require additional design, financing and public approvals.
