STARBASE, Texas – The city of Starbase is moving to establish its first local police leadership position, marking another step in the new municipality’s buildout of basic government services.
According to a city agenda posted for a June 26 special meeting, the Starbase City Commission was scheduled to meet in executive session to discuss the appointment, employment and duties of a public safety director/police chief. Commissioners were then set to return to open session to consider action on an offer letter to hire a public safety officer/police chief.
The position would be the first police chief role for Starbase, the newly incorporated city near SpaceX’s launch operations at Boca Chica. The move comes as the city begins shaping its local government structure, including public safety responsibilities, city administration and future municipal services.
The agenda did not include the candidate’s name or employment terms. The action item, however, indicates city leaders were prepared to move forward with a formal offer.
The creation of a police chief position is significant for Starbase because public safety has been one of the key questions surrounding the city’s transition from an unincorporated area into a municipality. A local police leader could help define how the city handles enforcement, emergency coordination, traffic control and public safety planning around launch activity and community growth.
