BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Glenfarne’s Texas LNG project has asked the U.S. Department of Energy to extend a deadline connected to the planned liquefied natural gas export terminal at the Port of Brownsville.
The proposed facility is designed for capacity of about 4 million metric tons of LNG per year. The request would move the project’s export-start deadline from Feb. 10, 2027, to Feb. 10, 2032, according to reporting on the filing and documents listed by the Department of Energy.
Texas LNG is one of several large-scale energy projects proposed or under development at the port. The project has previously announced construction preparation, engineering work and commercial arrangements as it works toward a final investment decision.
A federal deadline extension would not itself authorize construction or guarantee the project will be completed; it would give the developer additional time under its export authorization.
