The Start of a New Month Brings Another Reading Buddies Session With Shelter Pets

The start of a new month means another opportunity for the community to read to some very special listeners, as the Brownsville Public Library System hosts its monthly Reading Buddies program in partnership with the Brownsville Animal Regulation Care Center.

Reading Buddies invites children and families to relax, socialize, and read aloud to friendly shelter pets. The program offers a fun and heartwarming way for young readers to build confidence, strengthen reading skills, and share affection with animals who enjoy the attention just as much as the stories.

Library officials say the program creates a welcoming environment for readers of all levels while also providing enrichment and socialization for shelter animals.

Upcoming Reading Buddies sessions include:

  • Main Branch, 2600 Central Blvd.

Monday, February 2, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

  • Southmost Branch, 4320 Southmost Boulevard

Monday, February 23, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Participants are encouraged to arrive on time, as the animals are eager to meet their readers.

The program is ideal for young readers and animal lovers alike, offering a meaningful way to support literacy while spreading love to Brownsville’s shelter pets.
