RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS – The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’s Institute of Neuroscience, in collaboration with the Rio Grande Valley Cancer Health Disparity Research Center, invites the community to its inaugural World Head and Neck Cancer Day event on Wednesday, July 23.

This free public event will be held at 2902 Haine Drive in Harlingen from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The day will feature essential health screenings, educational presentations and community resources focused at raising awareness of head and neck cancers and promoting early detection. Attendees will have access to screenings for blood pressure, vision, depression and glucose levels, plus services from various nonprofit organizations dedicated to health and wellness.

Dr. Ihsan M. Salloum, director of the UTRGV Institute of Neuroscience, emphasized the importance of collaboration with Dr. Subhash C. Chauhan, a professor in the UTRGV School of Medicine and director of the South Texas Center of Excellence in Cancer Research, and Dr. Everardo Cobos, interim dean of the UTRGV School of Medicine, in tackling cancer health disparities in the region.

“This event reflects our commitment to advancing community health through education, early detection and access to vital resources,” Salloum said. “We are proud to work alongside Dr. Chauhan and Dr. Cobos, along with community organizations to deliver these critical resources to residents of the Rio Grande Valley.”
