Young Readers Invited to Share Stories With Shelter Pets

The Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center is inviting children to participate in a Read to a Shelter Pet event on Saturday, Aug. 15.

The program is designed for children ages 5 to 15 and gives participants an opportunity to read aloud to dogs and cats waiting for adoption. The activity helps children strengthen their reading skills while providing comfort to shy or anxious shelter animals.

The event will take place from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the Brownsville Animal Regulation and Care Center. Parents or guardians must remain with their children throughout the event.

Children may bring a favorite book from home or select one from the shelter’s collection. The free program is intended to encourage reading, compassion and connections with animals in need.
