BROWNSVILLE, Texas – A search for suspects after a reported vehicle theft led Brownsville ISD to temporarily implement security measures at five nearby campuses Thursday morning, according to Brownsville police and district officials.
Police said a vehicle reported stolen earlier in the day was found at about 10:54 a.m. in an alley between East 21st and East 22nd streets. Two men fled from the vehicle, police said. One person was taken into custody, while officers continued searching for the second person.
Brownsville ISD was notified of the police activity and placed Canales Elementary School, Faulk Middle School, Lincoln Park High School, Cromack-Castaneda Elementary School and Porter Early College High School into lockdown or hold procedures. The district later said the measures had been lifted and normal operations resumed.
Moody Clinic also entered a hard lockdown and canceled appointments for the remainder of the day, according to the report.
