SpaceX’s Starship lifted off from Starbase at 7:48 a.m. Monday, reaching Earth orbit for the first time and marking a significant milestone for the Starship program.
The launch drew spectators from across the region, including crowds who gathered at the jetties at Isla Blanca Park on South Padre Island to witness the spacecraft rise from the Starbase launch site.
The mission marked Starship’s 14th full-scale launch and represented another major advancement in the development and testing of the spacecraft.
During the flight, Starship also deployed 26 Starlink satellites into orbit. The satellites were released from the spacecraft one by one as part of the mission, drawing cheers from crowds gathered at Starbase to watch the historic flight.
The Starlink satellite network is designed to provide high-speed internet service to communities around the world.
Monday’s flight represented an important achievement for SpaceX and another historic moment for South Texas, where Starship development, testing, and launches have continued to attract national and international attention.
