BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Brownsville’s reactivated Environmental and Conservation Task Force has begun reviewing how future data center development could affect the city’s natural resources, infrastructure, neighborhoods and economy.
The 11-member task force held its first meeting at the Brownsville Events Center after the City Commission approved Resolution No. 2026-121-A, which reactivated the group and directed it to review existing policies and development regulations related to data centers.
The task force includes representatives in public utilities, higher education, health and infrastructure, along with city-appointed and district-appointed members. Its review will include electricity demand and reliability, water consumption, land use and site selection, noise, lighting, neighborhood effects and infrastructure needs.
Members will also consider potential economic opportunities and financial issues connected to future data center projects. The group is expected to develop findings and recommendations for the City Commission.
