A Harlingen native is serving in a Navy aviation role that supports fighter jet training and carrier mission readiness.
Chief Petty Officer Jeffery Huerta, whose family ties include Harlingen, serves as an aviation structural mechanic for safety equipment assigned to Fighter Squadron Composite 13 at Naval Air Station Fallon in Nevada.
Huerta graduated from Sam Rayburn High School in 2003 and has served in the Navy for 21 years. He is also working toward a bachelors degree in occupational health and safety through Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
At NAS Fallon, sailors and aviation personnel support training for naval aviation units, including aircraft carrier mission preparation and advanced tactical training. Huerta said values learned through his South Texas upbringing helped shape his leadership and work ethic in uniform.
