EDINBURG, Texas – South Texas Health System Children’s will host a free online discussion Aug. 19 to help families recognize, prevent and respond to sports injuries among young athletes.
The Facebook Live webinar is scheduled from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Dr. Santos Cantu will discuss conditioning, hydration, nutrition, rest and warning signs that may indicate an injury requires medical attention.
The presentation will also address concussion awareness and steps parents, coaches and athletes can take to reduce risk as school sports and other activities resume. Federal health estimates indicate more than 3.5 million children and teenagers are treated for sports-related injuries each year.
Hospital officials said early recognition and appropriate recovery time can help prevent a minor injury from becoming a longer-term problem. Families can find access information through the South Texas Health System Children’s social media channels and the STHS Let’s Talk program.
