EDINBURG, Texas – South Texas Health System has been named one of Newsweek’s America’s Greatest Midsize Workplaces for Women for 2026, earning a five-star designation.
The health system said women account for 67% of its workforce and hold 58% of leadership positions, including two of its three chief executive officer roles. STHS operates 12 facilities and a regional operations center in the Rio Grande Valley.
Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group developed the recognition using an analysis of more than 2.6 million online employee reviews covering 4,700 midsize U.S. companies.
Organizations were evaluated using 120 performance indicators, with emphasis on workplace culture, belonging, work-life balance and opportunities for professional growth.
STHS was among 10 Texas organizations receiving a five-star designation and 35 workplaces statewide included in the ranking.
Carolyn Petties, STHS system director of human resource operations, said the recognition reflects the organization’s efforts to create an environment where women can build careers, advance professionally and contribute to patient care and leadership.
