Edward James Olmos to Headline South Texas International Film Festival

EDINBURG, Texas — Oscar-nominated actor Edward James Olmos will headline the 2026 South Texas International Film Festival, scheduled Sept. 10-12 at the Edinburg Arts, Culture and Events Center.

Festival organizers announced that Olmos will appear alongside Rio Grande Valley natives Valente Rodriguez and Dannie McCallum. Olmos is scheduled to participate in a public panel from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.

Olmos is known for roles in “Stand and Deliver,” “Selena,” “Blade Runner” and “Battlestar Galactica.” His work includes acting, directing, producing and writing.

The festival program includes 31 independent films, 22 premieres, red-carpet events, workshops and a live screenplay pitch competition. Organizers say the screenings will feature local, national and international filmmakers.

The South Texas International Film Festival is a City of Edinburg event presented through the Cultural Arts Division of the Dustin Michael Sekula Memorial Library. Tickets, the film guide and schedule information are available through the festival’s official website.
