BROWNSVILLE, Texas – Brownsville officials are reminding residents that fireworks are illegal inside city limits as families prepare for the Fourth of July holiday.
The city said the rule is intended to reduce the risk of injuries, fires and property damage. Officials are encouraging residents to attend professional fireworks displays instead of lighting fireworks at home.
Fire officials also urged families to keep children away from fireworks and cautioned that sparklers can burn hot enough to cause serious injuries. Residents in areas where fireworks are legally allowed are advised to keep water nearby, follow manufacturer instructions, light one firework at a time and never relight fireworks that fail to ignite.
Officials also asked residents to be considerate of neighbors, veterans, young children and pets who may be sensitive to loud fireworks.
