SpaceX Launches Raise South Padre Island Property Damage Concerns

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – A South Padre Island attorney says homeowners around the Laguna Madre have reported cracks, broken windows and other property damage they believe may be connected to vibration and sonic booms from Starship operations at Starbase.

Attorney Michael Moore said he began examining the issue after noticing wall cracks and fogging in double-pane windows at his own home. He said residents in Port Isabel, South Padre Island, Laguna Vista, Laguna Heights and Bayview have reported similar concerns.

Reported conditions include cracked drywall and foundations, damaged tile roofs and swimming pools, broken windows, shaking walls and pictures falling during launches. Those reports are allegations and do not by themselves establish that a launch caused the damage.

Moore said his firm does not assume every defect is launch-related. Structural engineers are being used to distinguish ordinary settling or deterioration from damage that could be associated with launch activity.

Homeowners who notice new damage should photograph and date the condition, retain repair estimates and receipts, and document changes over time, Moore said.

Community meetings are scheduled from 1 to 6 p.m. Aug. 26, Sept. 3 and Sept. 16 at the Port Isabel Event and Cultural Center. The meetings are open to residents without appointments.

No independent engineering determination or court finding tying the reported damage to SpaceX operations was cited in the source report.
