The City of Brownsville is moving forward with the expansion of the Southmost Nature Trail, a project that will enhance connectivity, promote outdoor recreation, and support sustainable transportation in the community.
Currently located near Porter High School, the Southmost Nature Trail will be expanded southward to reach Expressway 77. The planned route will extend through 14th Street, continue to Roosevelt Street, and proceed down to McDavitt Street, creating a continuous and accessible trail corridor for residents.
The design phase of the project is scheduled to begin in March. Once completed, the expanded trail will provide additional opportunities for walking, biking, and enjoying the outdoors, while improving safe routes for students, families, and commuters.
This project is part of the City of Brownsville’s $215 million Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which focuses on strategic investments in infrastructure, mobility, quality of life, and long-term growth across the city.
City officials emphasize that the Southmost Nature Trail expansion reflects Brownsville’s commitment to creating healthier, more connected neighborhoods while enhancing public spaces for current and future generations.
More information about the project will be shared as the design process progresses.
