SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, Texas – SpaceX’s Sept. 28 Starship flight brought additional visitor activity to South Padre Island, where businesses reported a boost in customers tied to launch viewing.
The test flight from Starbase marked the first time Starship reached orbit. The vehicle later returned over the Pacific after its mission was shortened for safety reasons.
Launch days can draw visitors to the island and nearby communities for viewing opportunities, increasing traffic at restaurants, hotels and other tourism-related businesses. The latest flight came as South Padre Island continues to position itself as a place for visitors seeking views of Starbase activity from across the Laguna Madre.
Business activity can vary with launch timing, weather, road access and whether visitors extend their stays beyond the launch window.
