The City of Brownsville is continuing its efforts to promote cleaner, healthier neighborhoods through its Brighter Brownsville, or B.R.I.G.H.T., Neighborhood Cleanup Program.
The next cleanup event is scheduled for June 26 in the Acacia Lake Gardens neighborhood, providing residents with an opportunity to properly dispose of unwanted items and help improve the appearance of their community.
The cleanup will take place from 8 a.m. to noon. Residents are encouraged to place acceptable materials behind the curb for collection or bring them directly to one of several roll-off container locations throughout the neighborhood. City officials remind residents that materials will only be collected before noon.
Collection sites will be located at Elena Street and Cuatro Milpas Drive, Margarita and Jessica Streets, East 31st and Tampico Streets, Naranjo and Tampico Streets, and Lima Street and East Avenue.
Residents looking to dispose of tires may do so at a designated container located at Castañeda Elementary School.
Accepted materials include grass clippings, brush, mattresses, sofas, tree limbs, furniture, and large household appliances. However, hazardous materials such as paint, oil, batteries, car parts, construction debris, and household garbage will not be accepted.
To assist with the cleanup effort, a brush truck equipped with a grapple will travel throughout the neighborhood collecting larger debris and bulky materials.
City staff are also asking residents living near collection sites to secure their pets during cleanup operations to help ensure the safety of crews and neighbors.
The B.R.I.G.H.T. Program is part of the City's ongoing commitment to neighborhood beautification, environmental responsibility, and community pride.
Residents who are unable to attend the event are still encouraged to place acceptable materials behind the curb for collection. Community members interested in volunteering can contact the City's Organizational and Human Resources Department and submit a volunteer application.
