HARLINGEN, Texas – New industrial investment is creating opportunities for skilled Rio Grande Valley workers to return home, but employers and educators say the region must expand its workforce pipeline.
Leaders from Workforce Solutions Cameron, Texas State Technical College, RGV LEAD and major employers discussed the issue during an infrastructure and workforce forum in Harlingen. They said technical education, career awareness and direct coordination with employers will be essential as energy, manufacturing and construction projects advance.
The panel also emphasized reaching younger students early and providing training that leads directly to credentials and well-paying local jobs.
