Each episode takes viewers behind the scenes to discover a featured animal’s unique characteristics, diet, natural habitat, role in the ecosystem and other fascinating facts. The videos also highlight the dedication of the Zoo’s animal care team and the importance of conservation efforts that help protect species around the world.
Creature Feature supports the vision of the Gladys Porter Zoo Master Plan, a collaborative effort between the City of Brownsville and the Gladys Porter Zoo to enhance one of the city’s premier attractions.
The Gladys Porter Zoo is accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA), a distinction awarded to institutions that meet the highest standards in animal welfare, veterinary care, conservation, and education. In addition to caring for its animal residents, the Zoo also serves as a refuge for animals in need of rehabilitation, nurturing, and specialized care.
Through Creature Feature, BTV News extends the Zoo’s educational mission beyond its facilities by creating engaging videos that help viewers better understand the importance of wildlife conservation and the vital role each species plays in maintaining healthy ecosystems.
The series has already spotlighted cassowaries and ocelots, offering audiences an up-close look at two remarkable species while celebrating the Gladys Porter Zoo’s ongoing commitment to conservation, education and inspiring a deeper appreciation for wildlife.
