Most Rio Grande Valley Cities Post Sales Tax Gains Through July

McALLEN, Texas – Most Rio Grande Valley cities received more sales tax revenue through July 2026 than during the same period last year, according to Texas comptroller data.

The region's 42 cities collected about $250 million, an increase of roughly $11.5 million, or 4.8%. McAllen rose 7.16% to about $63 million, Brownsville increased 4.4% to $38 million and Pharr rose 5.4% to $19 million. Harlingen, Weslaco, Mission and San Juan also posted gains.

Edinburg was a notable exception, declining 5.8% to about $24.5 million. Sales tax allocations are an important source of money for local services and economic development.
