Cameron County Receives $1 Million Grant for Santa Maria Community Center

CAMERON COUNTY, Texas – Cameron County has received a million grant from the Valley Baptist Legacy Foundation for development of the Santa Maria Community Center at Santa Maria Community Park.

County officials said the proposed center is intended to expand local access to preventive health services, fitness and nutrition classes, mental-health and wellness resources, educational programming and community events. Plans call for flexible program space, a teaching kitchen, an information-technology room, accessible restrooms and a backup generator.

Santa Maria Community Park at 33034 River Drive in La Feria opened in May and includes athletic fields, a splash pad, playground, walking trail and picnic areas.
