BROWNSVILLE, Texas – The Brownsville City Commission has appointed the inaugural members of a new Sports Commission Advisory Board to provide community input on the city’s sports-tourism efforts.
The board’s work is expected to include supporting efforts to recruit tournaments, teams and sporting events to Brownsville. City officials said those events can bring athletes, coaches, families and spectators to local hotels, restaurants, businesses and attractions.
Commissioner Tino Villarreal will serve as the commission’s ex officio representative. Appointed advisory-board members are Albert Chavez, Julio Lozano, Valdemar Cortez, Adrian Delgado, Guillermo Rico and Francisco Lozano.
The board is intended to help identify opportunities and provide local perspective as Brownsville develops its sports-event strategy.
