The public will have a chance to weigh in on proposed improvements to FM 1846, also known as Oscar Williams Road, in San Benito and Cameron County.
The proposed project would widen about 1.62 miles of FM 1846. Plans call for four 12-foot travel lanes, a 14-foot continuous left-turn lane, two 10-foot shoulders and a 10-foot shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.
The estimated $10.5 million project would be funded with state and federal money. It is listed in the Rio Grande Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization plan for construction in fall 2032.
A virtual public meeting is scheduled to become available Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 5 p.m. and remain online for at least 15 days. The public can access the materials through txdot.gov by searching for FM 1846 (Oscar Williams Rd.) or through the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority hearings and meetings page.
Written comments are due by Aug. 14, 2026, and may be submitted by mail to the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority or by email to edavila@ccrma.org.
